These pieces are examples of the craftsmanship of Charles DeLong and Fred McIntyre. Fred was certainly no match for Charles' skills in
watchmaking, but Fred was the business man on the team and Charles was the inventor and engineer. Fred had sufficient skills to demonstrate
any of the work and to do a competent job of design and execution when needed.
DeLong's Winding
Indicator Patent Watch. The patent in this watch was applied to the
McIntyre watch. In the McIntyre watch, the indicator was on a separate
dial. In the patent model, it is concentric with the seconds bit.
Fred's Watch with Fredonia style regulator. I believe Fred made this
watch while he was in watchmaking school in 1903 prior to leaving
McAlester and starting the McIntyre Watch Co.
Gold disk with engraving of Fred's
portrait by DeLong. According to Chamberlain, DeLong was such an
accomplished engraver that he forced himself to give up the practice,
lest it interfere with his watchmaking career.
Engraving by Fred of verse and Art Nouveau woman's head.
It would appear that DeLong was training Fred in engraving technique
given the similarities between the work in these two examples.
