Front, Dial, Back, Case mark, Cuvette, Movement, Second view of movement

The Elgin center seconds watch was a lower cost alternative to the convertible watch. It allowed the movement to be cased either as hunting or open face by merely re-orienting the snap on dial. These watches are nearly as scarce as the 21 jewel convertibles. In some examples, the gold plating is still intact on the train wheels and the watches are truly beautiful. This example has lost most of the gold plating and is a little washed out. The dial also has numerous hairlines around the edges. However, it remains a good example of the breed.

The watch is cased in a display cuvette 14K case from a low grade convertible movement. The second lever slot and retaining screw in the stem were added as part of the casing effort.
