The Grade 162 along with the companion Grade 156 hunting case model was Elgin's highest grade watch following the 21 jewel convertibles. A small number of these were made lever set instead of pendant setting and were marked Lord Elgin. There may also be some Lord Elgin marked pendant set examples. These watches are very finely finished and have the deep dish polished winding wheels that are characteristic of Elgin's highest quality movements. It also has the daisies on the balance cock that seems to be the indicator of best quality. The finish is very good. This example has a marginal minute dial that is associated with railroad service and is in a nice gold case. The other example has a more elegant Breguet Arabic Numeral dial but is in a screw back replacement case. 7437054 |
