The 1888 Riverside Maximus introduced the Maximus grade. Most collectors feel it is the highest grade 1888 model. Most of the American Grade 1888 model watches are 19 jewel rather than 21 jewel. The American Grade 1872 model is usually considered a higher grade than the 1888 model

This example lacks the distinctive 1888 Maximus dial but will get one as soon as one becomes available.
